![]() The CenterThe Presbyterian Counseling Center began in the recognition that God gives particular talents and training in order to meet particular needs. In 1986, the local Presbyterian churches asked a Presbyterian minister and a counseling professor to create a place of ministry to people in pain. Together Dan Taylor and Fred Robbins founded an "upper room" where excellence in counseling is expressed in a spirit of pastoral care. Nearly everyone says they believe in God, but most counselors are taught that God does not belong in therapy. Most people feel their spiritual faith and religious beliefs are closely tied to their state of mental and emotional health, but very few counselors are trained how to integrate spirituality into counseling. It is important to most people that their counselor respects their faith values and beliefs, yet too many counselors either disregard faith or try to convince the client to believe a particular way. People who come to the Presbyterian Counseling Center find that their own spiritual beliefs and values are seamlessly woven together with deeply competent counseling into an especially healing experience of psychotherapy. The Presbyterian Counseling Center exists to serve members of the supporting churches and the entire community, whoever will come. We are also especially concerned that excellence in therapeutic ministry be available for those who are less able to pay.
